The new cricket season is finally here! Our day started a bit overcast and threatening but miraculously, we got started on time. We had no fewer than 4 debutante for the 2nds today: Alfie Kennedy, Tanish Sharma, Jude Fisher & Archie McDowell.
JK elected to bat first with Luke Fisher & Gareth Thompson opening for CSNI. They got off to a steady start before a few wickets fell in clusters. By the time JK came in at #8, CSNI were 66-6 and in a spot of bother. In a great moment, father and son got to bat together with Alfie proving an excellent foil to JK. When Alfie finally departed, he was replaced by another (slightly older Kennedy) as JK was joined by older brother DK.
The pair then proceeded to put on a batting masterclass. Together, they put on a partnership of 144 before James holed out on the final ball of the innings. It is worth noting that we had to come off for rain after 36 overs and JK was on 87. He then turned on the afterburners for the final 4 overs propelling us to 235 for Instonians to chase down.
The Instonians innings ebbed and flowed with contributions from Nelson 45, Lambert 35 & Shannon 44 (27). With Shannon and Lambert in the middle, they also demonstrated what a bit of experience can do as they scored freely. But it was CSNI experience to the fore as DK (yes, you read that right!) accounted for both of them.
Ultimately, a very exciting match in which we sneaked across the finishing line, winning by 9 runs.
