CSNI took on Lisburn 1XI for the first time since their promotion last season. Lisburn won the toss and elected to bat first on a mizzly morning on the back square at Stormont.
J.Gillan (0-15) and V.Minford (0-32) took the new ball. They bowled a good length and offered very little for the batters. In the third over Lisburn’s opening batter was dismissed with a superb run out by A.Cowan at backward point. Two overs later E.Carville got off to a great start in her spell with a catch by A.Cowan, again at backward point, as well as a clean bowled in the 17th over leaving her with the excellent figures of 2-27 from her 4 overs.
E. Wilson and S.Thomas came on to bowl, combining well to restrict the Lisburn batters and claiming figures of 1-20 and 1-17 respectively. Lisburn closed their innings with a total of 114-5 off their 20 overs.
S.Rountree opened the batting for CSNI and batted well for a run a ball 15 (1×4) before being run out. Her opening partner was B.Healy (3 x 4s) who batted sensibly before being bowled by R.Lowe while attempting a reverse sweep. The next 5 wickets fell in quick succession with no batters getting beyond single figures. E.Wilson came to the crease and started causiously respecting the good balls but also punishing anything loose. She finshed with 51*, achieving her well earned maiden half century (8 x 4s). E.Carville joined her to create a good partnership of 46 and together they saw the team home in the 18th over.
The 1XI have a two week break before taking on North Down on the 21st July. The 2’s are in action on Monday and Wednesday along with the celebratory match happening on Thursday evening.
