On Saturday the 3rd and 4th XI were in the unusual position of being drawn to play each other in the Intermediate Cup in what turned out to be a great game of cricket all round.
4s skipper C.McCreedy won the toss and elected to have a bat. The 4s got off to a sketchy start with the returning L.Adair working his way through the 4s top order before a partnership of 108 was struck up between club legend T.Dalzell and youngster L.Fisher. Adair eventually dismissed Dalzell for an excellent 77 (62) with 3s skipper Lutton dismissing Fisher for a well made 48 (86) shortly after. There wasnโt much left in terms of resistance from the 4th XI, eventually finishing up on 184 all out.
In reply the 3s opened up with the brotherly pair of G & P. Lutton. The pair made a rapid start with a partnership of 134 in just 17 overs before the skipper was dismissed by the 4s starboy for the day L.Fisher for an excellent 87 (51). Fisher then picked up another two wickets but it wasnโt enough on the day and the 3s eased to victory with 7 wickets to spare in just the 23rd over.
An enjoyable day out all round with everyone making a contribution to the game and it was especially pleasing to see seven of our ladies players involved, some of whom it was their first game of menโs cricket so well done ladies! Players of the match goes to Lewis Adair for the 3s with bowling figures of 5-1-12-5 & Luke Fisher for the 4s for an exceptional performance with both bat and ball. Well played lads!
A busy week lies ahead for both teams with the 3s in action against Cregagh on Thursday evening & Cliftonville on Saturday, with the 4s playing BISC away on Saturday afternoon.
