Instonians 2nd XI v CSNI 2nd XI

POTM – Harry Dyer (7-23 & 29 runs)

On a glorious Sunday afternoon at Shaws Bridge without a cloud in the sky, CSNI 2XI took on Instonians 2XI in a Junior League 1 fixture.

With the sun splitting the trees, CSNI lost the toss and were asked to bowl first in great batting conditions.

L.Bates (0-35) and O.Dyer opened the attack for CSNI, with the pair bowling particularly challenging lines for the batters in the first 10 overs, without any material reward. The first bowling change brought H.Dyer into the attack alongside Skipper G.Thomspson. Both bowlers bowled well to restrict the Inst batters, but the star of the show was Harry Dyer.

On a turning track, Harry bowled an unplayable line bowling 3 Instonians batters including the key wicket of 1XI batter Adam Ly. The onslaught continued when he returned to the crease for his next over. A very smart caught beind from keeper Marko Bates was the first, followed by a stunning one-handed over the head diving catch by Ross Copeland, fielding at short cover.

As if 5 wickets wasn’t enough for one day, Dyer picked up 2 more wickets, with both batters being adjudged LBW by the umpire. Harry finished his 8 over spell with figures of 7-23, including 2 maiden overs. It is also worth mentioning that it was great to see Colin Andrews return to the field and bowl an excellent 5 over spell. To finish off the innings, G.Thompson (1-40) & O.Dyer (1-32) picked up a wicket each to leave Instonians 147ao.

In reply, CSNI opened the batting with H.Dyer and M.Bates. Dyer continued his destructive form with the bat, scoring a quick fire 29 from 18, including 2 large sixes, before falling to R.Craigan. This brought H.Kokate to the crease who lasted 3 balls before he was run out without scoring at the non-strikers end. P.Lutton was next in and steadied the CSNI innings before he fell to a good catch at midwicket on 15.

With the score 71-3, skipper Thompson (43) came to the crease, and alongside Marko Bates (15) the pair batted sensibly to see CSNI across the line to win by 7 wickets.

This leaves the 2XI on two wins from two in the league. They will return to action next weekend with a trip to the Lawn on Saturday, followed by a trip to Wallace park on Sunday!
